hello! hello!
just a few short weeks to go. I wanted to just give a couple of thoughts to anyone who is checking in on this little blog :)
For one, I want to clarify the shuttle service we are having the night of the wedding. This shuttle will take people home from the wedding, but will not take you to the wedding. Confused? Well, it seemed wasteful to hire a shuttle service for the entire night when they would spend so much time sitting around during the wedding. So instead, there will be taxis available leaving from the Glorietta Bay Hotel to take you to the wedding. Then, there will be a shuttle to take you home from the wedding starting at 10pm and going all the way to 3am. This shuttle will take you directly to your doorstep, no matter where that is.
If you drive to the wedding but choose to take the shuttle home, we suggest parking in the parking lot we specified below where you can leave your car overnight and only be charged an extra $8.00 for leaving your car all day Sunday. We are sure there will be some carpooling up to La Jolla to pick up left over cars :)

we can't wait to become betrothed with all of you here to support us! he he.. see you soon!

love, rory & lindsay

hey everyone!

Time is getting close, and we are starting to squirm with excitement to see all of you! Invitations will be soon in your mailboxes and I wanted to post some additional information here of everything we couldn't fit on paper.

1st : our registration
we have registered at Williams-Sonoma and also at Crate & Barrel. You can find these registries under either Rory Flaten -or- Lindsay Brown.

2nd : getting to the wedding
La Jolla is located North of Coronado. Some of you will be coming from the North of La Jolla, and some of you from the South of La Jolla depending on where you are staying. Here are two links to mapquest of these respective routes...

If you are coming from South of La Jolla: you are basically going to get on Hwy 5 and head North toward La Jolla. Follow this mapquest link for more detail:

http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Coroando&1s=CA&1a=1124+Orange+Ave.&1z=92118&2c=La+Jolla&2s=CA&2a=1160+Coast+Boulevard&2z=92037

If you are coming from North of La Jolla: you are basically going to get on Hwy 5 and head South toward La Jolla. Follow this mapquest link for more detail. (I mapped it from Encinitas which is North of where most of you are staying. Just skip all the directions up to getting on Hwy 5 and you should be good :)

http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Encinitas&1s=CA&1a=[1-91]+S+Coast+Highway+101&1z=92024&1y=US&1l=33.04845&1g=-117.29405&1v=STREET&2c=La+Jolla&2s=CA&2a=1160+Coast+Boulevard&2z=92037

3rd : Parking

Parking can be tricky this time of year.. (truly near impossible to be honest!) To save yourself from the impossibly far-off metered spot, we recommend parking at a parking garage that has a footpath very nearby to get down to the park where the wedding is located. If anyone has a hard time with a bit of a walk or a long flight of stairs, you might want to first drop them at the wedding and then head to the parking garage.

how to get to the parking lot if you are coming from the South:
Exit La Jolla Parkway. (turns into Torrey Pines going south) 1 1/2 miles south, turn right onto Prospect. Go about 2 blocks, turn left into La Jolla Financial Building Parking Structure (1200 Prospect), just pass Top of the Cove restaurant

how to get to the parking lot if you are coming from the North:

I-5 South Exit La Jolla Village Dr., go right to top of hill, turn left onto Torrey Pines going south. 1 1/2 miles south, turn right onto Prospect. Go about 2 blocks, turn left into La Jolla Financial Building Parking Structure (1200 Prospect), just pass Top of the Cove restaurant

4th: Sunday. We would like to see all of you one last time. We are still figuring out a location to have some late morning breakfast in Coronado. We will let you know as soon as we find a spot.

& Last... can't wait to see you!!!

Coronado is a small island, but depending on where your hotel is located you may have to drive in order to get to the beach, shops, restaurants,etc. Here is a list of accommodations to help you find the perfect place to stay...

PACIFIC OCEAN SIDE ACCOMMODATIONS - {Walking distance to our house,beach, shops & restaurants}

(This is the beach, very close to where we live and all the hotels on the "Pacific" side of the island)
The Hotel Del Coronado
http://www.hoteldel.com/
This is a beautiful hotel. Historic, luxurious, ocean front..fabulous. Walking distance to everything. Ask for the rate for the Brown/Flaten wedding.

Glorietta Bay Inn http://www.gloriettabayinn.com/
We love this hotel. This is where mom stays when she comes to town. Lovely vintage boutique hotel, some rooms have patios and bay views of all the sailboats. Walking distance to everything. Ask for the rate for the Brown/Flaten wedding.

El Cordova Hotel http://www.elcordovahotel.com/
Charming Spanish hotel, fun atmosphere and tasty margaritas! note: not all of the rooms have been remodeled. We recommend asking for one that has. This hotel also has some larger rooms that can accommodate more than 2 people. Walking distance to everything. Ask for the rate for the Brown/Flaten wedding.

La Avenida Inn http://www.laavenidainn.com/
Simple little inn, basic and nice. Great location walking distance to everything.

The Village Inn http://www.coronadovillageinn.com/
Great location, great price, a little dated but it won't matter if you spend most of your time at the beach!

BAY SIDE OF THE ISLAND ACCOMMODATIONS - {These hotels and inns are on the opposite end of the island from the beach, on the downtown side}

(This is the view from this end of the island looking at downtown San Diego)

Coronado Island Resort & Spa Marriott http://coronadoresortmarriott.com/
This hotel is on the bayside of the island. It is on the water with beautiful views of the downtown skyline. Close to bike rentals, bayside restaurants, the water ferry to downtown. It would be a short drive to get from here to the beach and little downtown Coronado part of the island. Ask for rates for the Brown/Flaten wedding.

Best Western Hotel Coronado http://book.bestwestern.com/bestwestern/productInfo.do?propertyCode=05481
Great basic hotel. However, keep in mind it is on a very busy intersection and it would be a bit of a trek to walk to anything from this hotel.

El Rancho Motel
http://www.elranchocoronado.com/
This is such a cute place. Quaint and cozy. Our favorite pick for all the little inns on the north part of the island. Rooms are simple, minimal with vaulted ceilings and nice clean bathrooms. It is on a busy street and again, a trek to walk to anything from here. note: book these rooms soon, there are only 9 rooms in the whole place!

Crown City Inn & Bistro http://www.crowncityinn.com/

Nice motel, and the bistro has really good food. Also on a busy street and not walking distance to anything. note: be sure to ask for remodeled rooms here as they have not all been re-done yet!

DOWNTOWN ACCOMMODATIONS {Downtown is only 10 minutes from Coronado for those of you that want to be in the city}

We are only listing the boutique hotels we know of. Of course there are many Hyatts, Hiltons, and other mega hotels to choose from...

The US Grant http://www.starwoodhotels.com/luxury/property/overview/index.html?propertyID=1488

The Keating http://thekeating.com/

The W http://www.starwoodhotels.com/whotels/index.html

The Ivy http://www.ivyhotel.com/

The Sofia Hotel http://www.thesofiahotel.com/

LA JOLLA ACCOMMODATIONS {La Jolla is a 20 minute drive from Coronado. The wedding is in La Jolla. Our thought is that most our time will be spent in Coronado on the days before and after the wedding, but if you are coming for only one day, or just like the idea of La Jolla, here are some options...}

The Grand Colonial
http://www.thegrandecolonial.com/

Hotel Parisi http://www.hotelparisi.com/

Best Western Inn http://lajollainnbythesea.com/

Oh kay! We may have gone a bit overboard with the options.. hopefully it helps :)

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
{We have a couple events planned for you to keep in mind and plan for if you wish...}

Thursday {BEACH DAY} AUGUST 20th

A day and an evening at the beach. It seems silly to schedule beach time, but we just want to plan that on Thursday we meet up at the beach and have some time to relax and catch up. Towels, umbrellas, sunscreen, watermelon.
There are beach fire pits that we can have a sunset bonfire as well... weenies & s'mores anyone?

Friday {GOLF DAY} AUGUST 21st

For all serious and not so serious about golf, we have a group of T-times reserved starting at 9:00am at the Coronado Golf Club. http://www.golfcoronado.com/

If you would like to play please email us and let us know so we can book the right number of spots.
**The course does rent clubs if you don't have them or don't wish to bring them.

After golf, we will have a rehearsal dinner with the family but hope to meet up for a pre-matrimonial cocktail with anyone who wants too!

Saturday {WEDDING DAY} AUGUST 22nd

Some things to know about the logistics of the Big Day...

Time : The wedding will begin at 5:00.
Location: La Jolla Cove Bridge Club @ 1160 Coast Boulevard, La Jolla, CA 92037
Directions from Coronado to Location: http://www.mapquest.com/mq/7-sHFpkLAVGZWr

Parking
: La Jolla cove is a very busy place in the summer months, and parking can be a challenge. Give yourself a healthy amount of time to find parking, and know that it will most likely be a bit of a walk to the site from where you park, so if there are people that can't make the hike, considering dropping them off before you go searching. There are a number of large parking lots. The best one (i.e. the shortest walk) is located at 1200 Prospect in the La Jolla Financial Building.

Shuttle Service: We will have a shuttle service if you would prefer not to drive to La Jolla. It will pick you up in Coronado and make trips back and forth a number of times throughout the evening so you can go home at 9pm or 2am!

......................................................................................................................

Some ideas of things to do while you're here...
